The College has been named in memory of Sri Surajmal Saha , the age old freedom fighter and veteran politician and the erstwhile honorable Member of Parliament (Upper House) . His son, Lokanath Saha started the college in 1980 in the name of his father which was initially run in a high school, i.e; Bholanath Vidyapeetha, Puri. In puri district, there was only one higher education institution namely Samanta Chandra Sekhar College. But in subsequent times it failed to meet the requirements of all the aspirants in and around purl, pursuing higher education. Hence the demand for the second higher education institution. Initially to start with Mr. Saha took a lot of pain. In subsequent time, it was difficult to run the college in a school due to class of time and other administrative reasons. Hence the college was shifted to a rented place in puri town in 1989. After the college was able to stand on its own, the then Principal Prof Shyam Sundar Mohanty with the help of all staffs of the college purchased a land of 4.00 acre in the outskirts of Puri town. Even all the staffs donated a substantial amount altogether for this purpose. The foundation stone of the college laid on…………. by ……………. Finally the college get shifted to its own building on 11 th February 2018 under the able leadership of Prof. Aswini Kumar Das ,the then Principal and Sj. Maheswar Mohanty, Ex-minister, the then President, Governing Body.

It gives me immense pleasure being the president of Governing Body of Surajmal Saha Mahavidyalaya, Puri which was established in the year 1980 in the remembrance of great freedom fighter and Ex-Parliamentarian (Upper House) Sj. Surajmal Saha. It is one of the premier colleges in Puri district next to S.C.S (Auto) College. Our efforts to excel as an educational institution are being realized through the support of a dedicated team of faculty members and non-teaching staff. The institution strives to meet the needs and demands of the knowledge society and provides the students with the intellectual resources and skills, they need to prosper in their life. The college education transforms each young adult to an independent and responsible citizen. It is not just about acquiring degrees or scoring marks rather about learning and gaining knowledge that will become the building blocks to a successful career and address the variety of issues. Anyone stepping into this institution will have the opportunity to learn more beyond academics for all round development . I welcome all the aspirants for pursuing higher education to this institute.
